Help with grill idea, $30 of mesh vs $500 grill

I did my old Liberty/Legacy by removing and cutting in a wire insert.

Thinking of doing the same with the Levorg;
-Remove grill (probably be a pain as the whole bumper has to come off)
-Dremel out the current grill
-Paint the chrome to match my car (currently plastidipped, going to paint the mirrors and grill properly)
-Insert and fix the mesh
-Replace grill
-Admire handy work or start calling wreckers for a replacement

any suggestion/thoughts/ideas are much appreciated

Thanks
Sam

Pull the headlight washers out and tie some string around them, then take the face plate off - this will help when you have to pull them out to put the face plate back on. Bumper removal is the same as WRX but without the headlight washers, takes about 20 minutes to remove. Good luck!

I was seriously thinking of doing this mod, ended up just wrapping the chrome part with black satin wrap, so pretty quick and straight forward and happy enough with how it looks... Then did all the rest of the chrome with a combination of wrap and plastic dip, had a qoute for $ 590. 00, so did myself for under $100.00, really happy I gave it a go.... IMG_20210910_174737.jpg

Really interested to see if you do the mesh mod however, I ran out of time to do mine but can be done, I was going to use some angle aluminium to form shape of the opening to give the mesh something to attach too...and hid the edge's. Just an idea...

That’s a good thought, I was going to epoxy but wouldn’t hurt to add some extra points to fix to. Mesh has been delivered so just need a day where I have the time to take the whole bloody bumper off

Yeah it's actually easier than it sounds, I actually didn't completely remove the bumper, after you pull the top clips from under the lights the bumper was able to drop down and gave me enough room to undo the screws that hold the grill. So didn't need to undo light fittings etc.

**Update**

Good
-Bumper came off easy, tips about the washers and only undoing the top and folding the bumper down
-Super happy with the look for $30 until I tried to reinstall…

Bad
-Used cable ties to secure the mesh which worked perfectly. But, the chrome can be detached from the main grill which I did to paint, when re attaching it the cable ties took up some extra room needed and the REALLY flimsy fastener pieces all snapped off and some of the cable ties snapped. I put the grill down to come up with a plan and it scratched the new paint

So going to drill new holes for cable ties and re attach the chrome part to the grill properly with some epoxy or glue

Took of the subi badge and will do all the fix ups once I get the Legacy Turbo Vinyl to put on the badge and attach to the grill

Well done, that mesh looks really nice.... Shame about the small finishing bits, I had some of my chrome clip things break also they are so brittle. And the result completely changes the look..... Congrats
