Since I got several quarts from the USA, Im using the Royal Purple Synthetic Oil 5W-30. So far so good being in a tropical country. Feels like the 0w-20 is a bit thin for our climate. Would appreciate your inputs

im from the philippines where it is hot traffic is horrendous. dealer puts in motul 5w40 fully synth instead of the required 0w20.
I think my 5w40 is a bit thick and 5w30 should be enough. but its their requirement so no choice for me.

can't you request them to put whatever is to their liking AND recommended by subaru/FHI ? I guess you would end up with 5w30, which would be better :)

I'm running 0w20 myself, because dealer puts that in there, just because :)

Good afternoon,
I have a 1.6T from 2018 with 61000 kms. Until now the car uses 5w30 oil, but from now on I want to put 0w20.
The manual specifies:
- SN (RESOURCE CONSERVING)
- GF-5
- A3 or A5

Which oil do you recommend?

0w20 in my opinion is too thin. Its used purely to keep emissions down.
It's recommended for my fa20e engine but the oil cap says 5w30.
I won't use an 0w20 ever. In the UK mini's use 0w20 and its killing the engines

The FB20 engine oil specifications are the same as I have set?
- SN (RESOURCE CONSERVING)
- GF-5
- A3 or A5

Which 5w30 oil do you use as an alternatives.

Greetings from Spain

After reading your comments I am not so clear to change to 0w20. The problem is that the 5w30 oil that puts the official service is very bad

Tbh I don't actually know. I've read so much about what oil to and not to use and I'm so confused.
I plan to speak to Opie Oils in the UK as they are super helpful.

1.6 oil specs could be different from 2.0
My oil cap on 2.0 GT-S clearly says "5W-30"

For FB16 instruction says 0w-20 is the best, but you could use 5w-30 and 5w-40.

Here in Poland dealers and experienced mechanics put 5w-30 as they claim 0w-20 is not proper for our climate because of huge amplitudes of temperature.

I put Motul's 5w-30.
