Headlamp units are expensive!

Something either came off or was kicked up by a lorry on my way to work on Tuesday. I was doing 50mph, the lorry maybe 40mph as it was going uphill. There was a loud bang, and whatever it was also rattled around under the car as well.

The Subaru dealer quoted £1100 + vat for a replacement headlamp unit. £1400 fitted. I'm also looking at used items but no luck so far.

I think I'm glad whatever it was didn't hit the windscreen

I am on another forum and they were quoted £1200 from Vauxhall for a LED Corsa headlight. I'm surprised there isn't a market sprung up repairing headlights at those prices.

Yes, and the people who imported my car from Japan also use regularly for parts. Just be sure they are compatible with what i assume is a UK version.

Used Allegro and otomoto in the past, actually for a front right (LHD) headlamp unit.

I don't know the part number, but it is a UK spec one I need. I'm not sure what the difference is as there is nothing on the clear part of the headlight that would direct the beam.

Edit - I found a part number with my cheap but trusty amazon endoscope. 84002VA161. Looks like it's 2017 onwards

I can only think the facelift non-turbo models are not listed. I have put my VIN number in all the search options for Subaru's on-line I can find and non of them recognise it. I have checked the V5 with the Vin plates and it all matches. Strange.

Despite my efforts to seal the cracks, the recent heavy rain caused an SRH disabled warning. We had a trip to Edinburgh planned so I bit the bullet and had the headlight replaced. They also did alignment and cleared the warning codes.

I kept the old one an was surprised how big it is (standard size key for scale). There's also a part number if its of any use to anyone.

Did you get it from Subaru and how much in the end Neil? It would make sense to retain it, you never know if another fails eventually the innards may be of use.

I had Richtoy Subaru do it as they could get the part next day and fit me in the day after. Including VAT it was £1440 £100 labour for fitting and alignment, the rest was the cost of the headlight. They don't appear to have charged to scan and clear the codes.

Yes I wanted to know what I was getting for the money and it seemed far too expensive to leave it for them to chuck away.
