So, I've been chasing a rough running / misfire issue for a year now!

It first started after a pretty harsh jetwash at the local carwash, after leaving it was running really bad, misfiring and losing power on the motorway. I thought it may have got water somewhere and would dry out. It did get better but a year later and it still loses power on a long journey and seems worse in warm weather. Also very subtle at around 2krpm around town

It has never thrown any codes, checked by (indapendant specialist and dealer)

So far have replaced:
air filter
02 sensor
spark plugs
and full service

Looking at what else it could be, and thinking maybe MAF sensor, but don't want to throw £100s at a new one. What are peoples thought on trying a cheap chinese MAF sensor to temporaily see if it resolves or changes the symptoms before getting a new OEM one? I would not want it on there forever but thinking it could rule it in or out?

Thoughts?

Do not waste your money on any knock off ones.
Unplug it and see how it runs, if it seems to run great then get an oem one.
Have you tried cleaning it?
While cleaning it, clean the map & idle control valve

Thanks Robsy, I thought unplugging the MAF sensor would make it throw load of codes? I've not checked the Map Sensor so will have a look for it. Idling is fine, so would guess idle control valve is ok.

I'll see if I can find some MAF sensor cleaner somewhere.

The sensor itself is like a light bulb filament, fragile and can break easily. I spray mine with carb cleaner.
If the wires are not showing through the insulation, it should be ok.
