ISSUE RESOLVED, Thanks for the replies.

Took possession of my 2017 1.6 Eyesight two days ago, yesterday I drove it at night for the first time.... holy shit... couldn't see a thing.
High beams were great, low beams are pointed what feels like six inches in front of the damn grille, and that's with the little adjustment thingy in the cabin set at 0.
I just played with that dial in the driveway now that it's dark, and 0 is the highest setting, while 5 basically paints my front bumper and illuminates nothing.
Driving regularly on New Zealand roads at night, with no lighting and patchy roadside reflectors, this simply won't do.
Does anyone have any advice on locating and adjusting the alignment screws to physically move the headlight units and aim them higher?

Welcome and congrats. Sounds like she may have been in a crash and repaired to be out that much.
Firstly, the scroll wheel you described works differently here in Australia, it adjusts the brightness of the dash lights and not the headlight height. This link is a generic headlight adjustment video off youtube. Should help you out as most cars are adjusted in this way. Hope it helps, I'll sus mine out after work too and see:_

Is it a JDM import? My 2017 European market 1.6 eyesight has LED headlamps with self levelling - there are sensors on front and rear suspension.

Nah, no crash repairs - there's an insurance background check and declaration phase of the whole importation-into-New-Zealand process to prevent that.
I guess the settings make sense for Japan, where highways are illuminated and low beams are basically navigation running lights, and the guy who imported it into NZ only put 6,000kms on it over three years, so I'm probably the first person in the car's life to drive it on unlit goat track highways at night.
There are two scroll wheels in mine; one for dash illumination and one for low beam angle... or maybe it's some sort of eyebrow shade that scrolls down to cut off the top of the projected beam.
Maybe it's to prevent dazzling oncoming traffic, maybe it's to illuminate directly in front of the vehicle to aid parking, who knows?
It doesn't help that for the last eight years I've been driving a 4WD Nissan Terrano and got used to my low beams projecting ten klicks down the highway by virtue of sitting higher off the ground than the Subie's hood scoop sits.
I've adjusted headlights before, but never on a vehicle as modern as the Levorg, I'm a bit iffy about diving under the hood with my $50 K-Mart toolkit in case there's some fancy stuff I'm inadvertently screwing with... unintended consequences and all that.

This, right here, is exactly the sort of modern wizardry I fear upsetting by diving under the hood with a screwdriver and good intentions, lol.

Welcome! Are they the factory bulbs in them? Do they do the adjustment test on start up?
My jdm go left to right when first on.
And as for the tool box, I've seen videos of them ripping through the seats! Strap it down if you can.

If you have self leveling, a common flaw/fault my dealer told me about, is the sensor rod under the car. Check for a small rod attached to the rear left suspension arm, that isn't on the right side (or the other way around maybe ?)
If that thing is broken or disconnected, that may be why the beam is too low

Spoke to one of the handful of Subaru authorized specialists today.
They said the JDM 2017 doesn't have self leveling and to take it into any local garage for an adjustment of the physical screws, and to check nobody's fitted replacement bulbs haphazardly, so it's booked in for tomorrow morning.
Should be a simple fix.
Hopefully.

So you have 2 lights? 1 high and another low beam? The reason I ask is because if you have the 1 globe doing both high and low then it will be an LED which again you have 2 white plastic screws that you can adjust... good luck
