Knock Sensor

I have a malfunctioning knock sensor which results in various warning lights including disabling EyeSight. It's caused by water ingrese and cures itself after a day or two but comes back after going through standing water.

I need to get the sensor repaired or repaced. I thought that this was a fairly easy and quick job ( various utube videos); however my garage tells me that, either way, the manifold has to be removed so an expensive job. Some internet research suggests that the garage may be correct in that the manifold does, indeed, need to be removed.

Has anyone had experience of knock sensor removal on the FA engine?

Its manifold out to replace, no way of getting to it as its under the intercooler and intake manifold. Done it recently twice, bank one knock sensor issue, replaced it that sensor then went faulty, and had to replace again. Cost me 180 euros for labour both times to remove old and fit new in a Subaru Dealer here in Ireland. Ssnsor itself was 50 euros from subaru direct
